Be The Light came into my brain in early 2026, deep in the disheartening throes of scrolling on social media. I thought, 'how can I be making stupid candles when the world is literally burning.' Children are literally burning. In schools. In their streets.

I had commented publically about this, and my friend Joetta wrote:

Keep making candles. We need light in all its forms, now more than ever.

So an idea was nurtured. Fertilized. I would use my business to be a light. To do more good than just provide a commodity.

As author Dan Harris says, "action absorbs anxiety." So here we are biting our nails. But we are not powerless. We can take action.

Be The Light begins with the "Burn Candles, Not Countries" series, a fundraiser for Palestinian families, and will meander wherever we are moved to go, from schools on the shores of Lake Superior, to worthy causes on all continents. Because we can.
